Hershey Bears News Release
Two power play goals proved to be the difference for the Admirals on Sunday evening, as Norfolk defeated the Bears 4-2 in Hershey, Pa.
Hershey's Eric Fehr put the Bears on the board first 5:21 into the opening frame, firing a turnaround shot from the right face-off circle that eluded Norfolk netminder Corey Crawford. The Admirals quickly bounced back just two minutes later. Martin St. Pierre won a face-off to the left of Hershey goaltender Kirk Daubenspeck and sent the puck toward the corner. Matt Keith picked up the puck and sent a tough-angle shot through the pads of Daubenspeck to knot the score at one goal apiece at 7:16. The Admirals took the lead two minutes later while on the man advantage. Carl Corazzini found Mark Cullen in the high slot. Cullen sent a wrist shot past a screened Daubenspeck at 9:30. The Admirals took a 13-7 shot edge and a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.
Norfolk doubled its lead to two goals on another power play goal just 1:23 into the second stanza. Corazzini sent a wrist shot through traffic that beat Daubenspeck to give the Admirals a 3-1 lead. The Bears controlled play through the remainder of the second period, firing 12 pucks on net as opposed to the Admirals four. Bears' center Jared Aulin cut the Admirals' lead in half when he scored at 12:44, and Norfolk entered the locker room with a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes of play.
Another quick goal to start a period restored the Admirals' two-goal lead in the third. Cullen, with the puck to the left of Daubenspeck behind the goal line, sent a pass to the face-off circle just in front of him. Shawn Thornton one-timed the puck and beat Daubenspeck top shelf just 46 seconds into the final frame. Corey Crawford stopped six Bears' shots in the final frame as the Admirals won the game 4-2.
Corey Crawford made 23 saves on 25 shots and earned the victory for Norfolk. Kirk Daubenspeck stopped 23 of 27 Admirals' shots and was saddled with the loss.
