LAST WEEK: 1-2-0-0
Thursday, Oct. 27 - Orlando 2, South Carolina 1
Orlando entered the third period down 1-0, but Brett Findlay tallied a power-play goal at 4:11 to tie the game, and Patrick Watling knocked home the eventual game-winner at 13:28 to secure the first win of the 2016-17 season for the Solar Bears.
Friday, Oct. 28 - Atlanta 5, Orlando 3
The Solar Bears got two power-play goals from forward Joe Perry, and Ethan Werek added his first goal of the season, but Gladiators goalie Jay Williams made 49 saves in his pro debut and Tyler Murovich broke a 3-3 tie in the third period to help Atlanta secure the win.
Saturday, Oct. 29 - Atlanta 8, Orlando 2
Orlando surrendered six straight goals over the first two periods before Perry scored at 19:25 of the second. Eric Baier added a third period goal as the Solar Bears completed the three games in three nights set.
BEAR TRACKS:
Road Cooking
Orlando had one of the better road records among ECHL teams last season, as the Solar Bears won half of their road games and earned overtime/shootout points in six other contests for an 18-12-3-3 record, good for a .583 win percentage.
Plenty of Shots
Thanks in part to two 50-plus shots on goal performances this week, Orlando now is averaging 40 shots on goal per game, the highest total in the league.
Score Change
Upon further review, Adam Brace has been retroactively credited with an assist on Joe Perry's first goal from Friday's 5-3 loss to Atlanta. The assist had originally been awarded to forward Tony Cameranesi, but Brace deflected Ben Danford's initial shot that ended with Perry burying his first of the season. Cameranesi, a 2011 Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick, will continue to hunt for his first point with the Solar Bears; he scored two goals for the Toronto Marlies for his first pro points last spring.
Morning Games Abound in November
The Solar Bears will play three morning games in the month of November, with the first coming this Thursday at Greenville as part of the Swamp Rabbits' School Day game. Orlando returns the favor exactly two weeks later when they host Greenville on Nov. 17 at 10:30 a.m. for their first-ever School Day Game, presented by Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers. Orlando also hosts the Brampton Beast on Thanksgiving Day, with a special 11 a.m. start. The Solar Bears did not play a single morning game during the 2015-16 season.
