Walleye Notes

Sweeping in Norfolk: Toledo posted a weekend sweep of a pair of games at Norfolk. After falling behind Friday night 2-0 in the first period, the Walleye rebounded for a win when Tylor Spink scored 45 seconds into overtime for a 3-2 win. No need for late game heroics Saturday night as the Walleye raced out to a 3-0 lead and picked up a 4-1 win.

Best start in Walleye history continues: Toledo is 6-1-0 in the first seven games of the season, which is the best seven game stretch to open a season in Walleye history. The previous best record through seven contests was 5-2-0 set at the beginning of the 2014-15 season.

Offense rules: Toledo currently leads the ECHL in scoring averaging 4.57 goals scored per game. The 32 goals scored so far by this year's Walleye team is six goals more than the previous best through seven games (26 in 2014-15).

Overtime is Spink time: On Saturday, October 22 it was Tyson Spink who scored early on into the fourth period to pick up a Walleye victory, Friday it was his brother Tylor who scored 45 seconds in OT to secure another win. Both brothers have been on fire as of late with each posting six game point streaks.

The week ahead: Toledo will play another team in back to back this coming weekend, but this time it's a home at home series with the Wheeling Nailers. Friday night the Walleye will be in Wheeling with the Nailers coming to Toledo on Saturday. This is one of the longest rivalries Toledo has had in the ECHL with Toledo holding a 95-69-15 record all-time against Wheeling.

Superhero night is back: Saturday is superhero night at the Huntington Center. The night features Batman and Catwoman appearance and the first 1,500 fans will pick up a special Jeff Lerg bobble body when he was wearing the 2014 Batman specialty jersey! Doors open at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Walleye Player of the Week:

Tylor Spink (2 goals - 0 assists 2 points)

Walleye Goaltender of the Week:

Jake Paterson (1-0-0, 1.00 GAA, .970 save %)
