Grizzlies off to best start in four years
With a pair of one-goal wins over Mountain Division rival Colorado over the weekend, the Utah Grizzlies enter the third full week of the ECHL season at 5-1-0 for 10 points, tied with the Eagles for first place in the division. Utah is 5-1-0 for the first time since 2012-13, and just the third time in the last nine seasons.
Utah opened the two-game weekend series with a 4-3 win on Friday. Four different Grizzlies tallied goals in the win with Austen Brassard picking up a pair of points, including the game-winning goal 3:39 into overtime. Ryan Faragher earned the win in goal stopping 28 shots.
On Saturday, the Grizzlies and Eagles again went to extra time with Utah skating away with a 3-2 shootout win. Shane Walsh and Kenton Helgesen scored for the Grizzlies in regulation with Walsh scoring the only goal of the shootout for either team in the fourth round. Faragher was strong in net again for Utah notching 31 saves and stopping all four shootout attempts he faced.
Walsh has scored four goals on the season, which is tied with Jon Puskar for the team lead and is tied for second among all ECHL rookies. Puskar has three assists to go with his four goals for a team-leading seven points.
Faragher is 4-0-0 in his four appearances with a 2.38 goals-against average and a .919 save percentage, and ranks second in the league in wins.
The Grizzlies have a busy week ahead with four games in five days as they visit Tulsa on Wednesday and Sunday and Wichita on Friday and Saturday.
PHPA Captains' Club Jersey Auction ends Thursday
The Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) and ECHL, in association with The MeiGray Group, are pleased to announce that the 12th Annual Captains' Club Jersey Auction which benefits the ECHL Health and Welfare Trust Fund is now underway.
Game worn ECHL Captain sweaters from the 2015-16 season are currently being auctioned online at meigrayauctions.com. The auction will close at 9 p.m. ET on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016.
The Captain's Club Jersey Auction was initiated in 2004 and helps fund the ECHL Heath and Welfare Trust Fund, which provides ECHL players and their families with access to counseling services when dealing with personal and behavioral health concerns or assistance with a specific hardship.

Eastern Conference
Manchester at Adirondack (Tuesday) / Adirondack at Manchester (Saturday and Sunday)
The Thunder are one of just two teams to not suffer a regulation loss this season and enter the week with a one-point lead on the Monarchs for first place in the North Division.
Western Conference
Utah at Tulsa (Wednesday and Sunday )
The Oilers are tied with Toledo for first place in the Western Conference with 12 points each while the Grizzlies are just two points off the pace.
Divisions
North Division
Stepan Falkovsky scored his first pro goal on Friday at Elmira. The Thunder tied the all-time ECHL record, allowing just eight shots on goal in Saturday' 3-0 win over Elmira. Adirondack hosts Manchester on Tuesday and visits the Monarchs on Saturday and Sunday.
Luke Pither leads Brampton with eight points (3g-5a). Each of Brampton's five games have been decided in overtime or a shootout. The Beast host Kalamazoo on Friday and Fort Wayne on Sunday.
Andy Iles and John Muse combined for a .930 save percentage in three games last week. The Jackals have scored five of their nine goals in the second period. Elmira is at South Carolina on Thursday and Sunday and Atlanta on Friday.
Alexx Privitera scored his first career goal on Friday against Cincinnati. Manchester is 15-for-15 on the penalty kill at home. The Monarchs are at Adirondack on Tuesday and host the Thunder on Saturday and Sunday.
Ryan Penny is tied for second in the league in plus-minus at +7. The Royals have scored eight of their 17 goals in the third period. Reading visits Colorado on Wednesday and Rapid City on Friday and Saturday.
Josh Shalla's five-point game (3g-2a) on Saturday was the first by a Wheeling player since Jan. 29, 2011. Wheeling's eight goals on Saturday against Kalamazoo were its most since Dec. 11, 2010 against Gwinnett. The Nailers host Toledo on Friday, visit the Walleye on Saturday and host Kalamazoo on Sunday.
South Division
Tyler Murovich scored his 200th career point on Thursday against Wichita. The Gladiators have outscored their opponents 12-4 in the first period. Atlanta hosts Elmira on Friday and Orlando on Saturday.
Gabryel Boudreau and Rob De Fulviis scored their first career goals on Sunday at Manchester. Cincinnati is league's least-penalized team with 8.29 penalty minutes per game. The Cyclones host Fort Wayne on Wednesday and Quad City on Thursday and visits the Mallards on Sunday.
Matt Berry has at least one point in each of Florida's five games (1g-6a). The Everblades are second with 1.80 goals-against per game. Florida hosts Norfolk on Friday and Saturday.
Allan McPherson leads the Swamp Rabbits with five points (1g-4a). Greenville will be last team to open its home schedule this season. The Swamp Rabbits host Orlando on Thursday and Friday.
Frankie Simonelli is third among defensemen with 28 shots on goal. The Admirals are fifth on the penalty kill at 89.3 percent (25-for-28). Norfolk is at Florida on Friday and Saturday.
Joe Perry is tied for fifth with two power-play goals. Orlando leads the league with 40.00 shots per game. The Solar Bears are at South Carolina on Tuesday, Greenville on Thursday and Friday and Atlanta on Saturday .
Olivier Archambault has scored South Carolina's last three goals. The Stingrays are 16-for-18 on the penalty kill through five games. South Carolina hosts Orlando on Tuesday and Elmira on Thursday and Sunday.
Central Division
Kyle Thomas has had at least one point in all five games this season (2g-5a). Fort Wayne has killed off each of its opponents last 18 power-play opportunities. The Komets are at Cincinnati on Wednesday, host Indy on Friday and travel to Brampton on Sunday.
Bryn Chyzyk recorded his first professional points with two assists on Saturday against Allen. The Fuel play four of their next five games on the road. Indy is at Fort Wayne on Friday and hosts Quad City on Saturday.
Charlie Vasaturo is tied for first among defensemen with three goals. Kalamazoo has scored six goals on its last 12 power-play opportunities. The K-Wings are at Brampton on Friday and Wheeling on Sunday.
Justin Kovacs leads Quad City with nine points (3g-6a) and has recorded at least one point in each of the first six games The Mallards have allowed four goals in their last three games. Quad City visits Cincinnati on Thursday and Indy on Saturday before hosting the Cyclones on
Tylor Spink and Tyson Spink each have at least one point in six straight games. Toledo leads the league with 4.57 goals per game. The Walleye visit Wheeling on Friday and host the Nailers on Saturday.
Christophe Lalancette and Phil Brewer each have goals in back-to-back games. The Oilers are 5-1-0 in one-goal games. Tulsa hosts Utah on Wednesday and Sunday and Missouri on Friday while visiting the Mavericks on Saturday.
Gabriel Gagne scored his first pro goal on Thursday at Atlanta. Wichita is 15-for-15 on the penalty kill. The Thunder host Utah on Friday and Saturday.
Mountain Division
Michael Garteig is 3-0-0 through his first three pro starts. The Aces posted 59 shots on goal in Sunday's overtime win against Rapid City. Alaska visits Allen on Saturday and Sunday.
Chad Costello reached the 400-assist mark in his pro career on Saturday at Indy. Allen is third with 36.00 shots per game. The Americans host Alaska on Saturday and Sunday.
Cole Sanford leads rookies with five goals. The Eagles are 4-0-0 when scoring first. Colorado hosts Reading on Wednesday and Idaho on Friday and Saturday.
Jefferson Dahl is on a five-game point streak (1g-8a). Idaho has scored at least one power-play goal in each of its last five games. The Steelheads are at Rapid City on Wednesday and Colorado on Friday and Saturday.
Bryce Aneloski has five assists in the last three games. The Mavericks have scored three power-play goals in their last two games. Missouri visits Tulsa on Friday and hosts the Oilers on Saturday.
Lindsay Sparks leads the league with seven goals and 14 points. Rapid City plays four of its next five games at home. The Rush host Idaho on Wednesday and Reading on Friday and Saturday.
Shane Walsh is tied for first among rookies with 22 shots on goal. The Grizzlies have scored first in each of their five wins. Utah is at Tulsa on Wednesday and Sunday and Wichita on Friday and Saturday.
