Snappers Win Abbreviated Twin Bill, Back to .500

BELOIT, WI - After the wind and the rains swept through Beloit last night suspending the game in the fifth inning, the Snappers came back Thursday and played solid baseball. They were up with one out in the fifth inning, leading 7-6 to start the game and went on to win 11-8. In the nightcap, it was all Snappers as they won 3-0 to get back to .500 at 30-30.

B.J. Hermsen began the suspended game for the Snappers and was knocked around for eight hits, but only allowed two runs to score in the 3.1 innings he pitched. The TinCaps came out swinging as they tacked on four runs in the fifth inning to grab an 8-7 lead. It wouldn't' last for more than three innings as the Snappers stormed back as Wang-Wei Lin put the team on his back and smoked a three-run home run that hugged the foul poll in the eighth inning.

From there the Snappers went on to win 11-8 despite allowing a season-high 20 hits to the TinCaps (26-32). Yefri Carvajal took the loss, dropping his season record to 1-3 and ballooning his ERA to 7.77.

Jose Gonzalez finished the game for the Snappers, holding Fort Wayne to only hit over 1.1 innings, striking out two and walking one. He's now 3-1 on the season with a 2.60 ERA.

Rymer Liriano (5-for-6, HR, RBI) and Chris Bisson (4-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI) combined for nine of the TinCaps 20 hits, including seven singles, a double and a home run. Every TinCap in the starting line-up had at least one hit. Luis Domoromo, Jake Blackwood, Wes Cunningham and Emmanuel Quiles all had multi-hit games in the loss.

In the nightcap, the Snappers dominated for the entire one-hour and thirty-five minutes it took to complete the 3-0 win. Ryan O'Rourke started for the Snappers and pitched a solid 3.2 innings, yielding only one hit and striking out four. Michael Tonkin picked up his second win of the season (2-1, 4.78) as he pitched 2.1 innings and allowed one hit while striking out one.

Clinton Dempster pitched the seventh inning, struck out one and allowed no hits to pick up his fourth save of the season and lowered his ERA to 2.32.

The only offense in the game came in the third inning, when Andrew Leer roped a double to left field to score two and Nate Roberts followed up with an RBI single, scoring Leer.

The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game" for game one goes to Wang-Wei Lin whose eighth inning, game-winning three-run home run home run gave the Snappers the 11-8 lead and eventually the win. He finished 1-for-4 with the home run, 3 RBI and two runs scored.

For game two, the "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game" goes to Andrew Leer who finished 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. His season batting average is .238 and now has nine doubles.

The Snappers (30-30) are now back to .500 and currently sit 11.0 games out of first place and 3.5 games out of a playoff spot. They welcome in the Lake County Captains tomorrow starting at 7:00pm at Pohlman Field. Tomorrow will also mark the second fireworks show this season sponsored by Wendy's, Chili's and Melrose Pyrotechnics.
