Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Behind eight shutout innings from starter Michael McCardell, the Snappers held on to defeat the Cedar Rapids Kernels 4-2 Tuesday night. McCardell got his third win of the season while striking out a season-high nine batters.

The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Snaps would push four runs across. Two of the four runs came on a Jair Fernandez RBI-single to center field. Fernandez's single plated Chris Parmelee and Ozzie Lewis.

Danny Lehmann then drove in a run on a sacrifice bunt to first base, scoring Steve Singleton from third base. Mark Dolenc followed Lehmann's bunt with a sac fly to right, scoring Jair Fernandez from third and putting the Snaps up 4-0.

Beloit held the 4-0 lead into the top of the ninth inning when things would get interesting.

Reliever Danny Hernandez ended up being charged with two runs after starting the inning off with two walks. Spencer Steedley then replaced Hernandez and allowed a double that scored two. After Steedley retired one batter with the bases loaded, Matt Williams was called on to get the final two outs of the game.

The newest Western Division All-Star then proceeded to strike out the final two batters of the game, stranding the bases loaded and sending the Snapper faithful home happy with a 4-2 victory.

Williams picked up his seventh save of the year and Jair Fernandez had two hits for the Snappers who improved to 35-30 overall.
