Dayton Dragons News Release
Fort Wayne, Ind.-Andy Parrino's single to center field with two outs in the bottom of seventh brought in the winning run from second base as the Fort Wayne Wizards came from behind to defeat the Dayton Dragons 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday night. Game two will start at 7:45 p.m.
After Fort Wayne jumped ahead early with a pair of runs in the first inning against Dragons starting pitcher Matt Klinker, the Dragons rallied to take the lead in the fourth. Logan Parker started the inning with a home run to right field, his fifth of the season, to make it 2-1. Denis Phipps followed with a single to center and went to third on Michael McKennon's double down the right field line. Phipps scored on Devin Mesoraco's sacrifice fly to right to tie the game and McKennon scored on Justin Reed's double to right to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead.
Klinker held the lead through five innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. He allowed six hits and two runs with a season-high four walks and five strikeouts. Klinker was not involved in the decision.
Jeff Jeffords entered the game to start the sixth for the Dragons and allowed a one-out home run to Shane Buschini to tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jeffords retired the first two batters before allowing a double to right to Felix Carrasco. Joseph Krebs replaced Jeffords in the game and yielded a single to center to the first man he faced, Andy Parrino. Dragons center fielder Denis Phipps charged the ball in hopes of a play at the plate on Carrasco, but the ball glanced off Phipps' glove as the winning run scored.
Jeffords (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing two runs in one and two-thirds innings of work.
The Dragons meet Fort Wayne on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. (WING 1410 AM) in the third game of the series. Josh Raven (1-3, 5.00) will start for Dayton.
