
Brian Chambers promoted to Rancho; Cephas Howard joins Kernels

June 10, 2008 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce today that RHP Brian Chambers has been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga of the California League and that RHP Cephas Howard will join the Kernels from Extended Spring Training.
Chambers appeared in 19 games for the Kernels, all in relief, and posted a 2-0 record and 2.89 ERA. In 28 IP, he allowed 23 hits and 12 runs (nine earned) with 12 walks and 19 strikeouts.
Howard was selected by the Angels in the 37th round of the 2007 Free Agent Draft out of the University of South Carolina-Aiken and posted a 2-1 record and 7.17 ERA in 20 games at Tempe last year. In 21.1 IP, he allowed 21 hits and 19 runs (17 earned) with nine walks and 26 strikeouts and finished eight games for the Angels.
Howard will join the team in Beloit, WI and be active for tonight's 7 pm game with the Snappers.
With today's transactions, the Kernels roster stands at 25 active players with two players on the disabled list.
The Kernels are on the road to end the first half of the MWL season with games at Beloit and Kane County. The next home game is Thursday, June 19 at 7 pm when they host the Quad Cities River Bandits.
