Comstock Park, Mich. - A night after squandering a three-run lead late in the game, the Lansing Lugnuts were able to snatch a victory from the West Michigan Whitecaps by plating runs in the last two innings in a 2-0 win.

Each starting pitcher was outstanding in the contest, as Lansing's Brad Mills and West Michigan's Brandon Hamilton went pitch-for-pitch.

Mills (5-3) lasted seven innings and picked up the win by dominating the Whitecaps. The hurler gave up seven hits and struck out six batters while walking just one. He only allowed three runners to reach scoring position in the game.

Hamilton was not to be outdone, as he lasted six frames and gave up just three hits. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

The game was scoreless until the eighth when Lansing was finally able to get to Whitecap reliever Matt Hoffman. Moises Sierra singled to start the inning and Manny Rodriguez drew a walk to put runners at first and second for Lansing. Mike McDade then executed a sacrifice bunt to move the runners up, where Sierra would score on a wild pitch from Hoffman to make it 1-0.

Lansing tacked on an insurance run in the final frame on Matt Liuzza's RBI double into right-center field that pushed the lead to 2-0.

Edgar Estanga converted a two-inning save for the Lugnuts, making him a perfect 6-for-6 this season in save opportunities.

Lansing (37-28) now has a three-game lead over West Michigan (33-30) and a two-game advantage over Fort Wayne with five games left in the first half. The Lugnuts and Whitecaps will continue their series Wednesday night. Trystan Magnuson (0-6, 7.30) will make the start for Lansing. He will be opposed by West Michigan's Alfredo Figaro (7-2, 1.22). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
