Snappers Pull out Win in Dramatic 10th Inning Rally

Beloit Sky Carp News Release
In a game that witnessed six errors and countless missed opportunities, it was only fitting the Beloit Snappers would secure a 6-5 victory off one final throwing error.
Clinton's Jeff Zimmerman overthrew first base on Boog Powell's single to score BJ Boyd in dramatic fashion in the bottom of the 10th inning.
The win snapped a 4-game losing streak for the Snappers as they improved to 24-31 on the season. Powell went 4-for-5 in the game and also robbed Clinton of a home run in the eighth inning, snatching a fly ball over the center field wall.
Beloit appeared to have the game in hand in the ninth inning, as it was only a strike away from sealing a 3-2 win. Instead, the LumberKings put up runs in the top of the 9th and 10th innings, with Beloit rallying and answering with run production of its own each time.
The late-inning drama began in the ninth inning when Chih-Fang Pan committed two errors on an Ian Miller-RBI single that scored Zach Shank to tie the game, 3-3. Miller was down to his last strike, with two outs, but was able to reach base.
Austin Wilson then put the LumberKings on top 4-3 with a bloop single to right field, Clinton's first lead of the game.
The Snappers answered in the bottom of the ninth as Tyler Marincov drew a walk with the bases loaded to tie the game 4-4. BA Vollmuth couldn't convert in the next at-bat, despite drawing a 3-0 count, and the game headed to extra innings. Vollmuth finished the game going 0-5 with two strikeouts.
Beloit's optimism didn't last for long as Joe DeCarlo launched a solo shot home run in the first at-bat in the tenth inning to give Clinton a 5-4 lead.
Once again, however, Beloit was able to respond in the bottom of the frame. Chih-Fang Pan led off the inning with a single to center field, eventually scoring to tie the game off a Phil Pohl sacrifice bunt.
In the following at-bat, Zimmerman couldn't make the easy out on Powell's single at first base, and BJ Boyd crossed the plate to give Beloit a final 6-5 victory.
Kyle Finnegan pitched six innings for the Snappers, allowing five hits and one earned run. Edwin Diaz lasted five innings for Clinton, giving up five hits and one earned run as well.
Errors were a theme throughout the game as the Snappers scored the first run of the game aided by LumberKings' errors.
In the game's first at-bat, Powell laid down a bunt and advanced to third base on a throwing error by 3B Joe DeCarlo. Melvin Mercedes sent Powell home on a groundout that gave the Snappers a 1-0 lead. Beloit advanced another runner to third base in the frame, but was unable to convert the run.
In the second inning, Powell hit an RBI single to score BJ Boyd, and Powell reached third base once again after a throwing error by CF Ian Miller. With a 2-0 lead, Beloit failed to score Powell from third base as Mercedes flew out to center field.
After two scoreless innings, the LumberKings got on the board in the 5th inning on Ian Miller's RBI-double. Justin Seager beat BJ Boyd's throw to the plate by inches and Clinton cut Beloit's lead in half, 2-1.
The play at the plate came an inning after Beloit's Chih-Fang Pan was thrown out at the plate to end the frame.
Neither teams would score until the theatrics starting in the eighth inning. DeCarlo hit an RBI-triple to tie the game 2-2 but the Snappers answered hit an RBI-double from Jaycob Brugman.
The Snappers and LumberKings return to action tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Pohlman Field.
