Kernels Take Game Two

(Cedar Rapids-IA)- The Burlington Bees' could not hold on to a three run lead on Sunday afternoon as the Cedar Rapids Kernels scored four unanswered runs in route to a 4-3 win in game two in Cedar Rapids.

Exicardo Cayones opened the scoring in the second inning, driving in Eric Aguilera with a single into left. Brandon Bayardi would then come into score on a throwing error that in turn would advance Cayones to third. The Bees' lead grew to three when the next batter Angel Rosa hit a sacrifice fly to left scoring Cayones and the Bees led 3-0 in the second inning.

The Kernels would chip away; trailing 3-2 in the fourth inning, Mitch Garver homered to left to tie the game at three.

Cedar Rapids native Chad Christensen drove in winning run in the eighth, with a solo homerun to left-center pushing the Kernels past the Bees 4-3.

Kernels' reliever Jared Wilson (2-0) picked up the win while Trevor Foss (1-4) was charged with the loss for the Bees. Todd Van Steensel (4) earned the save.

The Burlington Bees (27-28) will wrap up their series with the Cedar Rapids Kernels (27-30) Monday at noon. Garrett Nuss takes the mound for the Bees against Derrick Penilla for Cedar Rapids.
