DAYTON, OH - A late-inning offensive surge pushed the Lansing Lugnuts (27-29) to a 7-3 win over the Dayton Dragons (28-27) on Sunday afternoon at Fifth Third Field.

Trailing 2-0 after two innings, 3-0 after four innings, and held hitless until the sixth, Lansing scored seven unanswered runs to turn around the game in stunning fashion.

The game-tying rally came in the eighth inning, with Derrick Loveless's single to left-center scoring a hustling Chaz Frank all the way from first base.

In the ninth, Mitch Nay pushed the go-ahead run across, singling in Matt Dean against Dayton reliever Alejandro Chacin (Blown Save, 3)(Loss, 3-1).

The Lugnuts added three more insurance runs in the frame with RBIs from Loveless, Dickie Joe Thon, and May Player of the Month Dawel Lugo.

With an early 3-0 lead to work with, Dayton starter Nick Routt took a no-hit bid into the sixth inning, but Frank and Loveless each singled, and Lugo brought them both in to score on a double over the head of right fielder Sebastian Elizalde. Routt finished with 5 2/3 innings pitched, allowing only the two runs on three hits.

For the second straight day, Lansing saw strong outings from its relievers. Phil Kish worked the fifth through the seventh inning in scoreless fashion, extending his current scoreless streak to 10.2 innings over his last five appearances. Right-hander Brady Dragmire (Win, 2-3) held Dayton scoreless in the eighth and ninth, allowing just two hits.

With his 2-for-5, 3-RBI afternoon, Lugo extended his team-high hitting streak to 12 games. Loveless finished the game 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Frank scored three runs, going 2-for-3 with a walk.

Lansing starter Alberto Tirado did not receive a decision after allowing three runs on six hits and four walks in four innings. Oddly, Lugs pitchers struck out only one batter all day, recorded by Tirado.

The Lugnuts and Dragons play the rubber match of the three-game series on Monday night at Fifth Third Field. Lefty Matt Dermody (3-1, 4.31) will start on the mound for Lansing, with right-hander Sal Romano (3-4, 3.30) tossing for Dayton.

The Lugs return to Cooley Law School Stadium on a Hump Day Wednesday, June 4th, starring Humphrey the Camel and featuring Happy Hour with half-off drinks from 7-8 p.m. That game opens a six-game homestand against South Bend and Great Lakes stretching through June 9th.

Tickets are available for purchase via the stadium box office, telephone at 517-485-4500 and online at lansinglugnuts.com . To sign up for Lugnuts Alerts, text LUGNUTS to 80373.
