Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Left-hander Evan Grills struck out a season-high seven batters in six innings, and second baseman Chan-Jong Moon hit a go-ahead, two-run triple in a three-run fourth inning of the Quad Cities River Bandits' fifth straight win - a 4-3 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium Saturday night.

In the opener of a three-game series, Wisconsin (25-30) took a lead against Grills (2-1) in the first inning. Timber Rattlers catcher Clint Coulter lined a double down the right-field line, and designated hitter Jose Pena singled him home for a 1-0 Wisconsin lead.

Quad Cities (29-26) tied the game in the top of the third inning against right-hander Zach Quintana (0-4). Center fielder James Ramsay lined a double into the right-center field gap and moved to third base on Moon's groundout. Left fielder Tanner Mathis then grounded to Quintana on the first-base side in front of the pitcher's mound, and Ramsay raced home for the tying run.

Coulter restored the lead for the Timber Rattlers in the next half-inning, as he hit his 10 th home run - tying for the Midwest League lead - down the left-field line with the bases empty and two outs.

With a 2-1 lead, Quintana retired the first two batters of the fourth inning before walking first baseman Jon Kemmer. With Ramsay batting, Coulter attempted to pick off Kemmer, but the throw went down the right-field line, sending Kemmer to third base. After Ramsay walked, Moon flied a ball down the right-field line just beyond the reach of a running right fielder Michael Ratterree, allowing Kemmer and Ramsay to score for a 3-2 River Bandits lead. Moon reached third base and scored when Mathis grounded a single to right field. All four runs were charged to Quintana, who allowed four hits and walked seven batters while striking out three.

Grills maintained the 4-2 advantage until the fifth inning, when Timber Rattlers center fielder Johnny Davis grounded a single into center field, stole second base and scored on an RBI single by left fielder Omar Garcia. After a flyout by Coulter, Grills picked Garcia off first base to end the inning. Grills worked around Ratterree's one-out double in the sixth inning to complete six innings for a team-high fourth time this season, allowing three earned runs on eight hits with no walks.

Quad Cities matched a season high by drawing 10 walks but did not score against the Timber Rattlers bullpen, as left-hander Clint Terry scattered five hits in 4 2/3 scoreless innings, and left-hander Trevor Seidenberger retired the only batter he faced in the ninth inning.

Ramsay led Quad Cities with three hits and two runs, while Moon and third baseman Jack Mayfield each had two of the team's nine hits.

River Bandits right-hander Frederick Tiburcio inherited the 4-3 lead to start the bottom of the seventh inning, and he worked around one-out singles in both the eighth and ninth innings to complete a season-high three innings of scoreless relief for his second save.

Now a season-high three games over .500, Quad Cities seeks to match its season-high six-game winning streak at 1:05 p.m. Sunday in Wisconsin, where River Bandits right-hander Kevin Comer (0-0) is scheduled to face Timber Rattlers right-hander Victor Diaz (1-2).
