
John Murphy joins Kernels from Fort Myers

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that OF John Murphy will join the Kernels from Fort Myers (FSL) and that J.D. Williams has been placed on the 7-day disabled list. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Murphy in the 19th round of the 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Jacksonville University. He split time last season between Cedar Rapids and Ft. Myers, batting .272 in 56 games for the Kernels with two HR, 22 RBI and seven stolen bases. He began the season at Ft. Myers and in 21 games was batting .197 with three doubles and eight RBI.
Williams goes on the DL with right patellar tendinitis. In 24 games for the Kernels this season, he was batting .233 with six doubles and 10 RBI.
Murphy is active and available for today's 2:05 pm game with Burlington. With today's transaction, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with seven players currently on the DL and one player on the Restricted List.
The Kernels continue a six game home stand today at 2:05 pm against the Burlington Bees. It's Bark in the Park where fans can bring their dogs to the ballpark with a special 'doggy' ticket. Proceeds from the dog tickets benefit the Friends Helping Friends Foundation. It's also a Planet X Run the Bases Sunday. Fans can run the bases, play catch in the outfield and get autographs from the players on the field after the game. Play Travel Advisors Baseball Bingo for a chance to win a trip to a Twins game. Enjoy the balloon artistry of Papa Balloon, face painting by Kennedy Wilson and Magician Jackson Green on the concourse during the game. Gates open at 1:00 pm.
