Snappers Give up 10 Runs in Another Lopsided Defeat
Published on June 2, 2014 under Midwest League (MWL1)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release
A night after giving up 18 runs, the Beloit Snappers struggled once again to contain Clinton's potent offense, losing 10-1 Monday night.
The LumberKings got run production in a variety of ways, capitalizing on an assortment of Snappers' defensive errors and blasting three home runs over the fence.
Beloit took the early advantage in the second inning, as BA Vollmuth hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Tyler Marincov. The Snappers stranded men on base in the third and fourth innings, but never had another serious scoring chance throughout the game.
Clinton wouldn't remain scoreless for long as a combination of Beloit defensive blunders in the fifth inning blew the game wide open. After the LumberKings tied the game in the fourth inning, Clinton converted two throwing errors and a balk in the frame to put up three runs.
The LumberKings would tack on runs in the following two innings, courtesy of solo shot home runs by Martin Peguero and Joe DeCarlo to take a 6-1 lead. Peguero's home run was the second of his career, and first since 2011, while DeCarlo's was his second of the series against Beloit.
Clinton's Austin Wilson added insurance runs in the eighth inning as he smacked a 3-run home run to center field. Wilson went 1-4 (4 RBI) on the night and his home run was his second of the series.
Beloit's Matt Stalcup lasted 3.2 innings in his first start of the season, giving up one earned run on three hits. Brent Powers pitched two innings in relief, allowing three earned runs on five hits.
Carlos Misell (7 IP, 3H, 0 ER in last outing against Beloit) pitched another dominating performance against the Snappers (7 IP, 5H, 0 ER).
The Snappers return to action Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Peoria Chiefs.
