Kaminsky Earns First Pro Win as Chiefs Win Series

PEORIA, IL- Rob Kaminsky picked up his first professional win, giving up one earned run in a career-high 6 2/3 innings, as the Peoria Chiefs defeated the Kane County Cougars 5-3 on Monday night to win the three-game series. The Chiefs are 31-26 and remain in second place with a one-game wild card lead.

Kane County opened the scoring in the fifth against Kaminsky. Carlos Penalver led off with a single and on an errant pickoff attempt by Kaminsky went to third. With two outs Jacob Hannemann singled home Penalver.

The lead was short-lived as the Chiefs answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning against Duane Underwood. With one out Kenny Peoples-Walls ripped a double up the left field line and Steve Bean singled him home on the first pitch to tie the game. Mason Katz singled and Michael Schulze reached on an error to load the bases. Richy Pedroza hit a sacrifice fly to plate Bean and CJ McElroy Jr. followed with a single to score Katz for a 3-1 Chiefs lead.

Kaminsky was still on the mound to begin the seventh and allowed a one-out double to Danny Lockhart. After a strikeout, Kaminsky was relieved by Brandon Lee. Hannemann greeted Lee with a bloop double just over Schulze's head at third making the score 3-2 Chiefs.

Again the Chiefs answered the Cougars single run in the top of the inning with multiple runs in the bottom half. Katz lined a one-out double to left and with two outs scored on a single by Pedroza. McElroy singled and Juan Herrera reached on an error to load the bases. Carson Kelly followed with a walk to force home Pedroza for a 5-2 advantage. Kane County ended the scoring in the eighth on two hits and a sac fly.

Kaminsky (1-1) worked 6 2/3 innings allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts for the win. Lee followed with 2/3 of an inning allowing a run on three hits with one strikeout for his second hold. Chris Perry allowed an inherited runner to score with one strikeout in 2/3 of an inning. Steve Sabatino pitched a perfect ninth with a strikeout for his first save.
