Lansing Lugnuts News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Lansing Lugnuts (27-30) dropped the rubber match of a three-game set, 10-5, to the Dayton Dragons (29-27) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.
For the second time in three nights, Dayton opened an early 7-0 lead over the Lugnuts. The Dragons clubbed nine hits in the first four frames against Lansing starter Matt Dermody (Loss, 3-2), who allowed seven runs (five earned) with three strikeouts and tied a career high with three walks.
Lansing opened its scoring in the fifth when Dayton starter Sal Romano (Win, 4-4) tossed a wild throw to first base on a ground ball from D.J. Davis, allowing Santiago Nessy to score from third.
That was sole blemish upon Romano's evening; the right-hander finished the night with seven strikeouts and did not allow an earned run in six innings of work.
The Lugnuts charged back in the seventh, bringing nine men to the plate and scoring four runs on RBI singles by Davis, Dickie Joe Thon, Jorge Saez, and Dawel Lugo.
But Dayton charged back with three runs in the eighth off reliever Scott Silverstein to put the game out of reach.
Davis finished the game 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored to lead the Lugnuts' offense. Lugo extended his hitting streak to 13 games, while Saez extended his on-base streak to 17 games.
The Lugs return to Cooley Law School Stadium on a Hump Day Wednesday, June 4th, starring Humphrey the Camel and featuring Happy Hour with half-off drinks from 7-8 p.m. That game opens a six-game homestand against South Bend and Great Lakes stretching through June 9th.
Righty Jeremy Gabryszwski (3-2, 3.71) will be on the mound for Lansing at 7:05 p.m., with South Bend turning to lefty Hector Hernandez (3-0, 1.96).
Tickets are available for purchase via the stadium box office, telephone at 517-485-4500 and online at lansinglugnuts.com . To sign up for Lugnuts Alerts, text LUGNUTS to 80373.
