Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons dropped their series opener against the Tennessee Smokies by ta score of 11-7 in front of 2,492 fans at Smokes Park.
The Smokies put the game away with eight runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run by Rubi Silva, his third home run of the season.
The Barons comeback fell short after an RBI single by Jamie Pedroza and a two-run home run by Trayce Tompson making it an 11-7final.
With the loss, the Barons fell to 12-18 on the season while Tennessee improved to 17-14. The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Chris Beck (2-4, 5.06) takes the hill against RHP Matt Loosen (2-2, 4.23). First pitch is scheduled for a 11:00 AM CDT on Tuesday.
