Jackson Generals News Release
HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (MAY 6, 2014) - The Generals (14-18) lost their fifth straight, 5-0 to the Huntsville Stars (21-11) on Monday in Huntsville. Jackson has been shutout in 22 consecutive innings and once again struggled with runners in scoring position going 0-for-6 for the game. Huntsville has logged three straight shutouts and gone 30 straight innings without allowing a run.
The Stars got on the board early in a big way. With two outs and the bases loaded in the third, Mitch Haniger lined a pitch to right-fielder Kevin Rivers (0-4), who couldn't quite reel it in and Haniger made it to second on the error that scored three runs. One batter later, Josh Prince doubled scoring two more runs, and Huntsville led 5-0.
That's all the help Drew Gagnon would need, as the righty went seven scoreless innings on the night to pick up his third win of the season for the Stars. His bullpen finished off the game as Tim Dillard and Tommy Toledo each pitched a scoreless inning to improve the Huntsville pitching staff's scoreless innings streak to 30.
Jackson starter Joshi Ogando (0-3, 5.54) gave up five runs and was pulled after 2.2 innings even though none of the runs were earned. Stephen Shackleford (3-1, 4.29) gave up just one hit in relief as he and Stephen Kohlscheen (1-0, 1.08) combined to retire 12 Stars in a row at one point.
Ketel Marte (1-4, 2B) led off the game with a double, extending his current hitting streak to eight games. Dan Paolini (1-2, 2B, 2 BB) also notched his team-leading tenth double of the season. But the Generals went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and are now 0-for-17 in the series.
The Generals and Stars will play the middle game of this series Wednesday at 6:30pm in Huntsville. Trevor Miller (0-4, 5.52) will look for his first win this season for Jackson as Huntsville will send Taylor Jungmann (2-3, 3.74) to the mound. The game can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and online at jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
