Anderson to MLB, Stites to AAA Reno

MOBILE, AL -- The Mobile BayBears and Arizona Diamondbacks have announced that on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 RHP Chase Anderson has been recalled from the Arizona Diamondbacks and will make his Major League debut. Also on Tuesday, RHP Matt Stites has been promoted from AA Mobile to AAA Reno. RHP Jimmie Sherfy has been promoted from Advanced-A Visalia to AA Mobile. RHP Sean Furney has been transferred from Extended Spring Training to AA Mobile.
Anderson who spent all of 2013 with AAA Reno, began the 2014 season with AA Mobile. In six starts the righty went 4-2, with a 0.69 ERA. The Wichita Falls, Texas native only allowed three earned runs in 39 innings pitched. He pitched at least six innings in every outing and did not allow an earned run in four of his six starts. His 38 strikeouts are tied for first among the Southern League. Anderson joins the Arizona Diamondbacks 25-man roster at Miller Park in Milwaukee, WI, Tuesday with first pitch between the D-backs and Brewers set for 7:10 PM CDT.
Stites, ranked as the D-backs eighth overall prospect by MLB.com joins AAA Reno after going 0-1 with a 3.37 ERA. The right-hander allowed just five earned runs over 12 innings in 12 appearances out of the bullpen.
Sherfy joins AA Mobile after being promoted from Adv-A Visalia. The RHP went 2-0 with a 3.27 ERA, allowing four earned runs and striking out 23 in 11 innings with 11 appearances out of the Rawhide bullpen. Sherfy is ranked by MLB.com as the 14th overall prospect in the D-Backs farm system.
Furney was transferred from Extended Spring Training to AA Mobile. The righty signed as a free agent with the Diamondbacks in June 2013. In the D-backs rookie league, Furney went a 1-5 with a 2.62 ERA, allowing 16 earned runs in 55 innings. The Warwick, Road Island native started five of the 16 games he appeared in.
