
Stars Earn Third Straight Shutout Victory

Huntsville, AL-Huntsville Stars RHP Drew Gagnon is the latest pitcher to contribute to throwing zeroes up on the scoreboard for the Stars as he threw seven shutout innings Tuesday night leading the Stars past the Jackson Generals 5-0 at Joe Davis Stadium. Gagnon who improved to 3-1 on the season stuck out four and allowed just four hits.
The Stars latest victory was the team's third straight shutout. The Stars pitching staff has now thrown thirty consecutive innings of scoreless baseball.
The Stars scored all five of their runs in the third inning. With the bases loaded and Mitch Haniger batting, Haniger lifted a line drive heading towards right fielder Kevin Rivers. Rivers dropped the ball on a sliding attempt which allowed Nick Ramirez, Shawn Zarraga and Kentrail Davis to score. The Stars made it 5-0 in the same inning on a two-run double down the left field line by Josh Prince.
Greg Hopkins and Prince each had two hits for the Stars, but the night belonged to the pitching.
Tim Dillard threw a scoreless eighth and Tommy Toledo nailed down a scoreless ninth, to secure the Stars third straight shutout victory.
The Stars are now a season best ten games over the .500 mark with a 21-11 record, which is the best record in the Southern League. They lead the Southern League North by three games.
The Stars lead Jackson 2-0 in their series as it continues Wednesday night in Huntsville at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars have RHP Taylor Jungmann(2-3, 3.74) starting. Jackson will turn to RHP Trevor Miller(0-4,5.22). The game can be heard starting at 6:15 PM CT with Steve Jarnicki on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM, and wtkiradio.com.
