Berger to Gwinnett, Cunniff to Mississippi

PEARL, MS -- Mississippi Braves LHP Eric Berger has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett from Double-A Mississippi while RHP Brandon Cunniff has been promoted to Double-A Mississippi from High-A Lynchburg.

Berger, 28, was signed by the Braves and sent to Mississippi on April 30. He gave up two earned runs in four innings out of the M-Braves bullpen. Berger was traded by the Astros to Oakland on March 29. He appeared in three games at Triple-A Sacramento to start the season before being released. Berger was originally signed by Cleveland in the eighth round of the 2008 draft out of the University of Arizona. He spent five years in the Indians system before being acquired by Houston in 2013.

Cunniff, 25, had yet to give up a run in nine appearances at High-A Lynchburg. He was 1-0 with three saves and had recorded 21 strikeouts in 15.2 innings pitched. Opponents were hitting .102 against the right-handed hurler. Cunniff was originally selected by the Marlins in the 27th round of the 2010 draft. He spent one season in the Marlins system and played the 2011-13 seasons in independent ball before signing with the Braves in June last year. In 20 appearances for the Hillcats last season, Cunniff was 1-0 with a 1.99 ERA.

The Mississippi roster has 25 active players and 3 disabled.
