Smokies Take Series Opener

Jacksonville, Fla. - James Adduci finished a triple short of the cycle, going three-for-five with a two-run homerun and three runs scored leading the Tennessee Smokies (42-4 9, 10-11) to a 6-4 victory over the Jacksonville Suns (48-43, 13-8) in front of 2,649 Wednesday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

Smokies reliever Casey Lambert (6-5) picked up the victory after dealing two scoreless innings while allowing one hit. Suns starter Nic Ungs (5-2) fell in the loss after allowing five runs, three earned, on eight hits over five innings of work. Brian Schlitter (13) saved the game for Tennessee after allowing a run and two hits in the ninth inning.

Jacksonville opened the early lead against Tennessee starter Andrew Cashner, scoring on a Scott Cousins single and Lee Mitchell sacrifice fly for a 2-0 advantage.

Tennessee took the20lead for good in the third inning with a three-run frame. Jonathan Mota knocked home the first run with a single for a 2-1 score. James Adduci next belted a two-run homerun to right field opening a 3-2 Smokies lead.

The Smokies added two unearned runs against Ungs in the fifth inning. Adduci came around to score on a two-out error from Suns right fielder Mike Stanton before a Tyler Colvin triple scored Marquez Smith for a 5-2 Tennessee lead.

Tennessee and Jacksonville traded runs in the seventh inning. Ty Wright drove in a two-out run with a single in the top of the inning before Jacksonville's Lorenzo Scott drove in a run in the bottom of the inning on a bases loaded groundout for a 6-3 score.

Jacksonville rallied for a ninth inning run when Brad Davis doubled home Lee Mitchell to finish the scoring a 6-4.
