SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Class AA minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, announce today that RHP Jeremy Papelbon has returned to the team from the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. He will be available for tonight's series opener in Jacksonville against the Jacksonville Suns.

No corresponding roster move has been made, putting the Smokies' active roster at 24 players.

The past week-and-a-half has been busy for the Louisiana native. Papelbon was called up to Iowa last Monday and appeared in relief for the Cubs against the New Orleans Zephyrs. He was then brought back to Tennessee on Wednesday and threw 3.1 innings in relief for the Smokies in their series opener with the Montgomery Biscuits that night. Brought back up to Iowa last Friday, he started for the Cubs Friday night in Oklahoma City, giving up five runs on eight hits in 3.1 innings.

In 23 appearances (16 relief appearances, six starts) between Tennessee and Iowa, Papelbon is 2-5 with a 4.02 ERA. Papelbon was a 19th-round draft pick of the Chicago Cubs in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft Pick.
