Biscuits Roar Back from Break With 9-3 Win

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Biscuits returned from the All-Star break with a lop-sided, 9-3, win over the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx at Riverwalk Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Biscuits struck quickly against Diamond Jaxx starter Kyle Parker in the first inning. Parker walked Desmond Jennings to start the inning and Rashad Eldridge forced him at second base. Chris Nowak and Fernando Cortez provided back-to-back singles to load the bases and Matt Fields put the Biscuits on the board with a sacrifice fly to center field. Cortez's single extended his Southern League-best hit-streak to 17 games.

Parker's struggles continued in the second inning. With one out, he walked Nevin Ashley before third baseman Matt Mangini misplayed a ground ball from Jason Bowers to put two aboard. Parker then walked Jennings a second time to load the bases. Eldridge bounced a two-run single back up the middle to plate Ashley and Bowers, and the Biscuits led, 3-0. One of the two runs charged to Parker was unearned in the inning.

Parker (5-5) lasted just four-plus innings, the first time in his last four starts that he didn't last seven innings. He allowed four runs -- two earned -- on four hits, walking six. Before he departed, he walked the leadoff man, Nowak, to start the fifth inning. It snow-balled into two runs -- both unearned -- as the Diamond Jaxx committed two errors in the inning. Cody Cipriano recorded his first RBI as a Biscuit on a ball that would have been a sacrifice fly that was misplayed in center field.

Jennings slugged a two-run home run off of reliever Danny Christenson in the sixth inning with Ashley aboard to put the Biscuits ahead, 7-0. Following the homer, Eldridge doubled and Cortez made it 8-0 with an RBI single off Nick Hill, who relieved Christenson.

Meanwhile, Biscuits' starter Brian Baker was coasting. He allowed just one hit through his first six innings. Johan Limonta finally put the Jaxx on the board with a solo-home run in the seventh, but Baker finished off the inning to record his longest outing of the season. Baker (5-1) earned the win, his fifth of the season, allowing just two hits over seven innings.

Ryan Reid finished the game with two innings of relief. He allowed back-to-back home runs to Mike Wilson and Limonta in the ninth inning to cap the scoring.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Thursday night at Riverwalk Stadium. RHP Brian Baker (4-1, 3.70) will make the start for the Biscuits against RHP Kyle Parker (5-4, 3.56) for West Tenn.
