(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Greensboro's Matt Smith homered, tripled, and drove in three runs as the Grasshoppers defeated the Lexington Legends 6-1 Wednesday night. Greensboro swept the three-game series, extending the Legends' losing streak to seven games.

Smith opened the scoring for Greensboro in the second with a lead-off homer, his 19th of the season.

The Grasshoppers scored three more runs in the fourth. Josh Adams led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Ryan Rieger. Smith then tripled to center field, plating both Adams and Rieger.

One out later, Tony Caldwell singled to left, driving home Smith and giving Greensboro a 4-0 lead.

The Grasshoppers added another run in the fifth. Austin Barnes led off with a single, moved to second on a groundout, and scored when Adams singled to center field.

Greensboro extended its lead to 6-0 in the seventh. Ryan Goetz led off with a triple and scored on a double by Aaron Senne.

The Legends scored their lone run in the eighth. Ryan McCurdy led off with a single, and two outs later advanced to third on a double by Zach Johnson. With Matt Duffy batting, Greensboro reliever Charlie Lowell's pitch bounced away from catcher Tony Caldwell, and McCurdy scored on the wild pitch, just beating the toss from Caldwell to Lowell, who was covering home plate.

Greensboro starter Josh Hodges (8-8) got the win after tossing five shutout innings. Lexington starter Luis Cruz (9-7) picked up the loss. He allowed five runs over five innings of work, striking out six batters. The loss was his first of the season at Whitaker Bank Ballpark after five victories.

The Legends will continue their home stand Thursday night when they open a four-game series with the Charleston RiverDogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
