Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
HAGERSTOWN, Md. (Aug. 22, 2012) -- The Hagerstown Suns pulled away from the Kannapolis Intimidators with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning en route to a 5-4 win on Wednesday night at Municipal Stadium.
Cutter Dykstra broke a 3-3 tie with a two-run double off Daniel Webb with no outs in the bottom of the eighth, plating the eventual winning runs. Colin Bates, who tossed a scoreless eighth inning, gave up an unearned run in the top of the ninth before striking out Adam Heisler with the tying run on base to end the game. Bates (8-3) earned the win while Webb (1-8) suffered the loss in one inning of work.
Kannapolis first baseman Leighton Pangilinan blasted a game-tying solo home run (8) in the fifth inning, his second straight game to go deep against the Suns.
Caleb Ramsey put the Suns ahead, 3-2, with a two-out bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the fourth. It's Ramsey's third triple in the last two games.
Courtney Hawkins led off the top of the fourth with a triple and scored on a Mark Haddow sacrifice fly. Chris Curley followed with a solo home run (11), his third in as many days, for a 2-0 lead. It's the second time this season Curley has homered in three straight games, last doing it against Greensboro July 15-17 when he hit four over a three-game span.
Intimidators starter Euclides Leyer worked his second straight quality start, tossing 7.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts in a no decision.
The Intimidators are in Lakewood, N.J., on Thursday to open a four- game series against the BlueClaws. Kannapolis sends LHP Chris Hanna (2-3, 4.15) to the mound against Lakewood's LHP Ethan Stewart (4-9, 3.61). The Intimidators return to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 28, to face the Greenville Drive.
