Osuna's Walk-off Single Lifts Power

The West Virginia Power beat the Charleston RiverDogs 5-4 on a bases loaded, walk-off single by Jose Osuna Wednesday evening. The Power rallied from a two run deficit in the six before taking the game in their final at bat.

Charleston struck first with a run off West Virginia starter Zac Fuesser in the second inning. Dante Bichette, Jr. scored on an infield ground out for a 1-0 RiverDogs lead.

West Virginia took the lead in the fourth with a pair of runs against the RiverDogs Bryan Mitchell. With two outs, Jose Osuna singled and Taylor Lewis walked. Willy Garcia singled to center to drive in Osuna to tie that game. Francisco Aponte laid down a squeeze bunt on the next pitch and beat out the throw to first, allowing Lewis to score and the Power to take a 2-1 edge.

The RiverDogs knocked Fuesser out of the game in the top of the sixth. Robert Refsnyder singled to start the inning and stole second base with two outs. After Bichette, Jr. walked, Casey Stevenson hit a three-run home run for a 4-2 Charleston lead.

The Power, however, would not trail for long. Osuna led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and score on a triple by Lewis. After a pitching change, Garcia drove in Lewis with a sacrifice fly to even the score at four.

Rinku Singh and Orlando Castro pitched in relief for West Virginia and retired each batter they faced. Singh worked finished the top of the sixth and worked perfectly through the seventh and eighth innings before Castro pitched a perfect ninth.

West Virginia would push the potential winning run to third base in both the seventh and eighth innings, but could not score. In the ninth, Alen Hanson and Alex Fuselier each single and were both advanced to scoring position on a sacrificebunt by Eric Avila. John Brebbia, on for the ninth inning, intentionally walked Gamache before Osuna singled to right on a 1-1 pitch to drive in Hanson and end the game.

Castro (4-6) notched the win and Brebbia (3-1) took the loss. Eight of the nine West Virginia position players had at least on hit, paced by three from Osuna. Wednesday's walk-off win was just the third this season for the Power and first of the second half.

West Virginia took two of three from Charleston, winning 9-2 on Monday, falling 5-4 Tuesday, and claiming Wednesday's in the ninth. These two teams will meet again next week in South Carolina.

The Power continue this seven game homestand on Thursday with a 7:05 first pitch against the Hickory Crawdads. Zack Von Rosenberg will make the start for West Virginia in the first of a four game set and will be opposed by Jerad Eickhoff at Appalachian Power Park.
