Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - In what was a mistake-laden ballgame, the Kannapolis Intimidators were defeated by the Lakewood BlueClaws by the score of 4-2 in game two of the four game half-ending series. The loss is the fifth in a row for the Intimidators.
In what began as a pitcher's duel Cameron Bayne for the Intimidators (30-37) and Jonathan Pettibone for the BlueClaws (41-27) ended with mistakes for the Intimidators in the loss.
The Intimidators took the lead in the forth inning 1-0 as Kyle Colligan hit a solo home run off Pettibone who allowed that as his only hit in 5.2 innings. The lead would stay that way until the bottom of the fifth as, off Bayne allowed a two out double to Adam Buschini and a ball to the next hitter that narrowly hit off of an Intimidators infielder and squeaked into left field to tie the game at one. In the sixth, the BlueClaws made it a one-run lead after a two out error by the Intimidators and a double the next hitter, Sebastian Valle.
In the eighth inning, Miguel Gonzalez led the inning off with a single and was sacrificed to second and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game up, but off Garrett Johnson (2-3) in the next half-inning the BlueClaws took the lead and won the game.
In the eighth, Jiwan James stretched a routine single into a hustle double and he was joined on the basepaths after a Leandro Castro intentional walk. After another Intimidators error the bases were loaded and Brandon Kloess was summoned into the game. On the second pitch, Valle singled in two runs which was the winning margin. The Intimidators made four errors in the ballgame in the field as well as more mental mistakes in the field and on the basepaths.
Joshua Zeid (5-2) pitched 2.1 innings in relief of Pettibone who allowed one hit and got the win and Bayne ended going seven, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned and striking out six.
The win by the BlueClaws could set up a championship clinching day tomorrow at 7:05 as Justin Collop will start for the Intimidators and Jarred Cosart for the BlueClaws.
