A three-run double by Levi Carolus in the first inning gave Delmarva an early lead, and the Shorebirds never trailed as they defeated the Lexington Legends 6-2 Friday night in Salisbury, Md.

Delmarva loaded the bases with nobody out in the first, but Lexington starter Luis Cruz retired the next two hitters. Carolus then lined a hit into the gap in left center field, scoring all three runners.

The Legends came back with one run in the third inning when Jose Altuve reached on an error and came around to score on Miguel Arrendell's double, but Delmarva struck for three more in the bottom of the sixth, two coming home on a double by Tyler Stampone.

The Legends scored a run with two outs in the ninth. Jiovanni Mier, who had singled, came home from second when Jose Altuve's grounder got past second baseman Ty Kelly for an error.

Delmarva starter Jesse Beal (5-3) pitched the first six innings to get the win. Cruz (2-1) was the losing pitcher.

The two teams play again Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
