Salt Lake City Stars News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Salt Lake City Stars, the NBA G League affiliate of the Utah Jazz, announced today the team's activations for Women's History Month, which will be held during their game against the Texas Legends (Dallas Mavericks affiliate), on Thursday, March 7 at the Maverik Center. The night will include the Stars wearing jerseys inspired by the WNBA's Utah Starzz, along with a pregame Women in Sports networking event that is open to females who are interested or currently working in sports, and will conclude with a panel of successful Utah Jazz and Utah sports speakers during halftime of the game.

The Utah Starzz, founded in 1996, were one of the eight original WNBA teams chartered. Utah Starzz basketball debuted on the court on June 21, 1997, as they hosted the Sacramento Monarchs at Delta Center. The franchise played six seasons in Salt Lake City, making the Playoffs in 2001 and 2002. During their final season in the city, the team advanced to the Western Conference Finals in 2002, finishing with a 20-12 record. The Starzz, now known as the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, moved to San Antonio in 2003, before taking up their current residence in Nevada in 2017. The six Starzz seasons in Utah showcased the likes of Natalie Williams (1999-02), Adrienne Goodson (1999-02), Margo Dydek (1998-02), Wendy Palmer (1997-99), Jennifer Azzi (2000-02), and more female players who paved the way for the league.

In honor of Women's History Month, the Stars will host a free networking event for women interested and currently working in sports. The event will begin at 6 p.m. MT, prior to the 7 pm tipoff, and will serve charcuterie boards and cookies from local women owned businesses, as well as other snacks and refreshments. The night will be complete with a panel discussion during halftime, hearing from Utah Jazz female leaders, and Utah media representatives.

Following the game, the special game-worn jerseys will be available for purchase through an online auction, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit a local women's charity cause.

Tickets for the Stars game on March 7 at the Maverik Center are available for purchase at slcstars.com or the arena box office. The game will tip-off at 7 P.M. MT at the Maverik Center and will be broadcast live on Jazz+ and NBAGLeague.com.
