
Santa Cruz Warriors Overwhelm Mexico City Capitanes, 117-100

MEXICO CITY, MX - The Santa Cruz Warriors (13-11) triumphed over the Mexico City Capitanes (12-11), 117-100, on Monday evening at Mexico City Arena.
Guard Kendric Davis led both teams with 24 points and 12 assists and guard Donovan Williams followed with 21 points on an efficient 7-of-10 from the field. Forward Javan Johnson contributed 18 points and forward Jackson Rowe rounded out the scoring with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Forward Ethan Thompson closed out the night with 15 points and five assists for Mexico City, and forward Louis King collected 15 points and four rebounds off the bench. Forward Juan Toscano-Anderson secured 15 points to go along with eight rebounds and six assists, and guard Luke Martinez added 16 points in the loss.
The Warriors opened the contest on a 10-0 run and despite the Capitanes closing the gap to just four points in the first frame, Santa Cruz closed out the quarter with a 31-23 advantage. The game remained competitive early in the second quarter until three straight Warriors three-point shots extended their lead to 15 points, 50-35, with less than five minutes remaining in the half. The Sea Dubs maintained the advantage to enter the break with a 64-52 lead.
The third quarter saw another 10-0 run from the Warriors, including a steal and dunk from Rowe. An alley-oop dunk from Santa Cruz guard Jimmy Whitt helped the Sea Dubs take their largest lead of the game, 88-62. Mexico City battled throughout the remainder of the quarter to close the deficit, 97-78, heading into the final frame. The Capitanes were unable to find offensive footing in the final quarter, and the Sea Dubs came away with the win, 117-100.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will next face the Austin Spurs on Wednesday, March 6 at 5 p.m. to end a five-game road trip. The Sea Dubs return to the Bay Area on Sunday, March 10 to host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at Chase Center, home of the Golden State Warriors, at 12:30 p.m. (PT).
