Altoona Curve News Release
Akron, OH - Carlos Santana hit a grand slam in the first inning and that was all that Akron needed defeating the Curve 4-1 Wednesday afternoon.
Losing pitcher Tony Watson had a rough outing, not making it out of the first inning. The first three batters for the Aeros reached before Santana's bomb. Watson (0-1) retired two batters before being pulled after high pitch count.
Aeros starter Hector Rondon (2-0) had a superb outing pitching five and two thirds innings allowing just one run on four hits and recording five strikeouts.
The Curve's only run came in the fifth inning when shortstop Brian Friday tripled in catcher Steve Lerud. Despite the Curve's struggles Friday continues to shine going 3-4 on the day with two singles and a stolen base to go along with the RBI triple. Friday's batting average moves to .611 (11-18) and remains second best in the Eastern League.
With the loss, Altoona (0-6) matches its longest losing streak of last year and ends a road trip that saw six losses despite only being outscored by eleven runs.
The Curve will hope to find their winning stride as they come home for the first time this season tomorrow night against Erie.Game time is set for 6:35 with radio coverage beginning at 6:20 on ESPN radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.
