Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, Pa - The Blair County Commissioner's office has announced that Thursday, April 16 will be declared "Robert and Joan Lozinak and Altoona Curve Day" throughout Blair County. The announcement was made by County Commissioner Chairman Terry Tomassetti at the County Commissioner's meeting on Tuesday.
The proclamation celebrates the return of Mr. Lozinak and his family - original owners of the Altoona Curve for the franchise's first three seasons - to once again owning their hometown team.
"We're absolutely thrilled that Bob Lozinak has the opportunity to own his team again," said Tomassetti. "His return to the helm of the Curve is truly a remarkable story and we're happy to welcome him home again."
An Altoona native, Mr. Lozinak was joined at the meeting by his sons David and Steve along with grandson Tim and other Altoona Curve officials.
Lozinak reacquired the Altoona Curve on December 1, 2008. Part of the proclamation articulates that "after ten years our [Blair County residents] experiences with family and friends at Blair County Ballpark have become part of the fabric of living in Blair County and central Pennsylvania."
The proclamation continues to add that, "the Lozinak family was a key player in the establishment of one of America's top minor league teams and the Number One minor league ballpark in America."
"This is truly an outstanding and appropriate honor for the Lozinak family," said General Manager Rob Egan. "The Curve will continue to uphold the stellar reputation it has garnered in its first decade as we propel into our second decade this year."
The day-long celebration coincides with the team's Home Opener, which begins at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday. Super Bowl XLIII champion LaMarr Woodley will be on hand to throw out a ceremonial first pitch and sign autographs for fans on the concourse during games. The first 5,000 fans will receive a 2009 Curve magnetic schedule courtesy of Appliance Outlet. Following the game, fans will enjoy a new-look, post-game fireworks spectacular.
Great seats still remain and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, in person at the Blair County Ballpark Box office or online at AltoonaCurve.com.
