Thunder edge Harrisburg 3-2 on Wednesday night

(Trenton, NJ)- Trenton scored the go-ahead two runs in the sixth inning, and held off Harrisburg for a 3-2 victory on Wednesday night from Waterfront Park. Trenton swept the abbreviated two-game series. Tuesday night's game was postponed because of rain.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the sixth inning, Trenton (3-2) scored two runs to take the lead. Second baseman Reegie Corona led off the frame with a single off of Harrisburg Reliever Yunior Novoa (0-1). Left fielder Colin Curtis followed with an RBI triple to plate Corona with the go-ahead run. Gonzalez then drilled an RBI single to increase Trenton's lead to 3-1. Curtis finished the game 3 x 4 with a triple, double, a run, and an RBI. Gonzalez and Corona also had two hits in the victory.

Harrisburg (1-4) closed to 3-2 in the seventh inning on an RBI single by Harrisburg Left fielder Leonard Davis off of Thunder reliever Kevin Whelan. But, Whelan struck out four over two innings of work. Thunder reliever Jose Valdez came on in the ninth and struck out the side for his first save of the season. Whelan and Valdez struck out the final six Harrisburg batters of the game. In the series, Trenton's bullpen did not allow an earned run in 7 1/3 innings.

Trenton Starting Pitcher Eric Hacker (1-0) tossed six solid innings to pick up his first victory of the season. He only allowed five hits and one run. He struck out four and walked two. Harrisburg Starting Pitcher Mike O'Connor received a no-decision. He yielded only four hits and one run over five innings.

Trenton begins its first road trip of the season on Thursday night at Dodd Stadium in Norwich, CT. RHP George Kontos (0-0, 1.80) will start for Trenton against Connecticut RHP Nick Pereira (0-0, 6.00). Game time is set for 6:35 p.m.
