New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays, today announced the match-ups for the 2009 High School Baseball Series, beginning with the Thursday, April 16 game between Goffstown and Bishop Guertin at 4pm. There will be 10 regular-season New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) games, featuring schools from all four state divisions participating in the fundraising program. Six AAU games and a game from the Granite State Over-30 Baseball League will also be part of the annual fundraising program that allows teams to raise money while playing a game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
"We are once again very pleased to see schools from all over the state taking advantage of this fundraising opportunity, allowing their student-athletes the chance to play at this state-of-the-art facility while raising money for their programs," said Fisher Cats President/General Manager Rick Brenner.
"On behalf of the 92 member schools of the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association, the vast majority of whom play baseball, I would like to thank the New Hampshire Fisher Cats organization for their ongoing commitment to the High School Baseball Series," said NHIAA Executive Director R. Patrick Corbin. "Aside from providing member schools with a unique and memorable opportunity to play at the beautiful Merchantsauto.com Stadium, this program affords the schools and their fans the chance to raise money in support of their local high school athletic programs."
"The culmination of this exciting initiative is always the final four games of the NHIAA Baseball Tournament being played at the stadium. It is always a thrill to see the expressions of the student athletes as they depart the buses and walk onto a professional ball field. Others, to include officials and fans, are equally as enthusiastic and impressed. It is clear that this has been a win/win partnership for the Fisher Cats and the NHIAA."
In the High School Baseball Series, each participating school is able to purchase 250 tickets to a Fisher Cats' game at $3 below face value, re-selling those tickets at the regular price to raise $750 for the program. The high school games are played either following a regularly-scheduled Fisher Cats' day game or on a day where the Fisher Cats are on the road.
