Chesapeake Baysox News Release

ERIE, Pa. - The offense continued to carry the load as the Baysox completed the sweep of the Erie Wednesday. For the second consecutive night every starter reached base and Jake Arrieta threw five solid innings to take down the SeaWolves 9-3. Center fielder Dave Krynzel had three hits, two RBI and two stolen bases batting cleanup for the Baysox.

Looking to avoid being swept after starting the season 4-0, Erie got on the board first. Maxwell Leon walked with one out in the first, and moved to third on an errant pickoff attempt and scored when Ryan Strieby singled to put the SeaWolves on top early.

The Baysox responded in the top of the second inning to tie the score at one apiece. Ambiorix Concepcion drew a walk, advanced to second on a balk, and stole third off SeaWolves starter Jon Kibler. After getting Melvin Dorta to ground out, Kibler gave up a two-out RBI double to left field by Adam Donachie.

The SeaWolves took the lead right back in the bottom of the inning. Jeff Frazier singled to start the inning, advancing to third on back-to-back ground outs. Santo De Leon walked, and Scott Sizemore stroked a single to center off Arrieta, scoring Frazier and putting Erie out in front 2-1.

The lead stood until the top of the fourth inning when the Baysox offense took off. Dave Krynzel led off the inning with a bunt single, Miguel Abreu followed with a single of his own and Ambiorix Concepcion reached with another bunt single to load the bases. Melvin Dorta lifted a sacrifice fly to right field which plated Krynzel, and Adam Donachie followed with a two-run double to put the Baysox back in front 4-2. Robert Valido tripled to score Donachie, and Paco Figueroa followed with an RBI double of his own, extending his hitting streak to six games and putting the Baysox up 6-2.

Tempers flared in the top of the seventh as Dave Krynzel singled and stole second with one out. Following the steal, Erie reliever Josh Rainwater hit Ambiorix Concepcion and was quickly ejected by home plate umpire Johnny Conrad along with manager Tom Brookens. Concepcion left the game and was replaced by Jeff Fiorentino. After a double steal, Rainwater's replacement Jay Sborz uncorked a wild pitch scoring Krynzel from third to make the score 7-2.

The Baysox would tack on two more runs in the eighth, when Paco Figueroa singled and Jonathan Tucker followed with a double to put men on second and third. After Brandon Snyder struck out, Dave Krynzel struck again with a two-run single up the middle to give the Baysox their eighth and ninth runs of the night.

Jim Hoey pitched two perfect innings striking out three. Ryan Rodriguez allowed one run on four hits over the final two innings to close out the opening road trip one game over .500 for the season at 4-3. The Baysox bullpen allowed one run over 12.0 innings during the three-game set.
