Skyhawks Fall to Delaware in Home Opener

November 22, 2019 - NBA G League (G League)
College Park Skyhawks News Release

COLLEGE PARK, GA-A College Park Skyhawks comeback wasn't enough to win the game on Thursday night, as they fell to the Delaware Blue Coats 120-112 in their home opener. The sold-out crowd totaled 2,886 at the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park. With the loss, the Skyhawks slip to 2-3 on the season. Video highlights of the game and an interview with 2 Chainz are available here.

Trailing by as many as 30 in the third, a dunk from Charlie Brown, Jr. sparked an 11-6 Skyhawks run to begin the fourth. The home team managed to cut Delaware's lead to seven, but that would be the closest the Skyhawks would come.

Brown, Jr. led College Park with 22 points, 10 which came in the fourth quarter. Jordan Sibert added 20 off the bench on 6-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Five of those threes were in the third quarter to keep the Skyhawks momentum alive.  Marcus Derrickson and Kenny Gabriel contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively, while Brandon Goodwin added six points, seven assists and seven rebounds. Norvel Pelle led the Blue Coats with 23 points.

"Our fight was good," said Head Coach Noel Gillespie. "Coming into a new arena, sometimes you aren't sure what to expect. But the crowd was great, the energy was great, even when we were down. We're going to get ready for the next one."

The Skyhawks return to action Sunday afternoon, matching up against the Long Island Nets. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Gateway Center Arena @ College Park. For more information on the Skyhawks inaugural season and to register for updates, please visit CPSkyhawks.com.
