Windy City Bulls News Release
The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the official G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, dropped their first road game of the season to the Greensboro Swarm on Friday night, 114-102.
The two teams spent most of the first half trading shots in the open floor to keep the contest close and maintain a quick pace of play from the outset.
Charlotte Hornets Two-Way player Kobi Simmons hit a three-pointer and Robert Franks finished off a three-point play to get the Swarm on the board in the early going
For Windy City, Chicago Bulls Two-Way player Adam Mokoka knocked down a pair of three-pointers, while Denver Nuggets Two-Way player P.J. Dozier continually attacked the rim throughout the first half.
Both teams struggled to knock down shots consistently however, with the Swarm shooting .389 from the floor over the first 24 minutes, and the Bulls shooting .321.
Greensboro opened the game up late in the second quarter behind the play of Simmons, who found multiple ways to contribute, finishing with 12 points, four assists, and two rebounds, on 5-for-11 shooting at the break. The late run to close the half gave the Swarm its largest lead of the game up until that point, 51-43.
Mokoka led the first half scoring for Windy City with eight points. The Bulls also got solid contributions off the bench from Perrion Callandret (four points, one steal in the first half) and Denver Two-way player Bol Bol (six points, two rebounds, one block).
Franks led things off in the third quarter for Greensboro by knocking down two more three-pointers. The Swarm Forward's outside shooting was a problem for the Bulls all night, hitting on 4-for-8 from beyond the arc, all at key points in the game to halt Windy City runs. Charlotte Hornets Assignment player Caleb Martin (14 points, six rebounds, 3 blocks) found his game as well, as the Swarm held a double-digit lead throughout most of the second half.
Three-point shooting proved to be difference, as Greensboro shot .405 on 15-fo-37 from long range, to Windy City's .250, on 10-for-40.
Dozier and Milton Doyle were able to spark their offense in the fourth quarter to trim the Greensboro lead to as little as five. Doyle finished the night with 13 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Dozier led all scorers in the game with 28 points on 10-for-24 shooting.
However the Bulls could never quite close the gap, as threes in the final frame by Franks (23 points, seven rebounds), and Tyler Nelson (17 points on 4-for-5 from three), closed it out for the Swarm.
Windy City (4-2) will travel to Fort Wayne to take on Mad Ants on Sunday afternoon, and finish out their three-game road trip Tuesday night in Canada against Raptors 905.
