CANTON, OH - The Canton Charge (5-1), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, had a game-winning bucket fall at the buzzer to defeat the Long Island Nets (1-4), 118-117, at the Memorial Civic Center on Friday night for their third-straight win.
The Nets led for the entire game and by as many as 18 until Canton went on a 16-3 run that culminated with a Sir'Dominic Pointer triple that gave the Charge their first lead of the night at 116-114 and 22.6 seconds left. The Nets responded immediately as Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot hit a three-pointer of his own near the top of the key to pull back ahead 117-116. Sheldon Mac caught the inbounds off the advance and drove to the rack, completing the comeback with a reverse layup as time expired.
Mac scored 15 points in the fourth quarter and totaled 34 for the game on 12-of-20 shooting to lead the Charge. Pointer finished with 23 points, four steals and three blocks in 34 minutes. Malik Newman added 17 points and five assists in 35 minutes. Tyler Cook came off the bench to provide 16 points and four rebounds in 29 minutes. J.P. Macura scored 15 points with four assists and two steals in 35 minutes.
The Nets were led by Luwawu-Cabarrot's all-around effort of 35 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists in 41 minutes. John Egbunu was a perfect 11-of-11 from the field for 22 points in 25 minutes. Jaylen Hands and Jahmal McMurray each added 14 points for Long Island. The Nets were 47-of-80 shooting (59%) as a team in the losing effort, but lost the turnover battle to Canton, 21-12.
