March 2, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce ran away from the Greensboro Swarm in the second half of Friday night's 121-107 victory at the Sanford Pentagon. The Skyforce (23-18) have now won five-straight games on their home floor, and have now won nine of their last 12 games.
After a back-and-forth first half, Sioux Falls came out firing in the third quarter, led by a career-high seven made three-pointers by Briante Weber (25 points, four assists and four rebounds). The Skyforce managed to outscore the Swarm 38-23 in the quarter and never looked back.
Greensboro (13-28) was led yet again by Damien Wilkins, who posted a game-high 26 points while adding nine rebounds and five assists in the loss. Cat Barber came off the bench to score 25 points on the night, and Same Thompson added 14 points and seven rebounds to highlight the bulk of the scoring for the Swarm.
The Skyforce bench was a strong suit in tonight's win, as Tony Mitchell (15 points), Larry Drew II (14 points), Matt Williams Jr. (12 points) and Jimmie Taylor (11 points) all scored in double figures on the night. Williams Jr. knocked down four more three-pointers in tonight's win, giving him at least three made threes in 11 of the team's last 12 games.
The Swarm outscored Sioux Falls 18-3 on second chance points, and gathered 13 offensive rebounds in the game, but it was the Skyforce' consistent shooting that kept the home team on top, as they shot 49.4 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from beyond the arc.
Charlotte Hornets' two-way players Mangok Mathiang (six rebounds and four assists) and Marcus Paige (12 points) were held in check for the majority of the night, while Terry Henderson's 13 points off the bench marked the only other double-digit performance for the Swarm in tonight's game.
Denver Nuggets two-way player Torrey Craig scored 11 points while adding nine rebounds, five assists and three blocks in his first game with the Skyforce since early December. Miami HEAT two-way player Derrick Walton Jr. turned in another efficient night, scoring 17 points and adding eight rebounds while shooting 6-of-9 from the field.
Sioux Falls now has a quick turnaround, facing the Texas Legends (23-18) in yet another difficult Western Conference matchup tomorrow night. The Skyforce will look to pick up their sixth straight win on their home floor, and get into the win column against the Legends for the first time this season.
The Swarm now attempt to snap their four-game skid when traveling home to take on the Maine Red Claws on Sunday, March 4 at 4:00PM ET.
