AUSTIN, Texas - The Austin Spurs (26-16), presented by SWBC, defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in a comeback battle by a final score of 123-112 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Friday night.
San Antonio Spurs Assignee Derrick White exploded with a season high 38 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists in 33 minutes. Jaron Blossomgame contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds in 24 minutes off the bench.
The Vipers built an early lead in the first quarter finishing ahead 32-24. In the second quarter, the Vipers outscored the Spurs 31-29 to go into halftime leading 63-53. RGV extended their lead in the third with a 10-2 run to take their largest lead of the game of 18 points. The Spurs answered with a late 29-12 run that included 17 points by White to cut the Viper lead to 2 points. Brandon Paul, on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs, gave Austin its first lead of the game at 11:27 in the fourth with a made basket and a free throw. A late 10-0 run in the final minutes led by Nick Johnson (7 points) helped clinch Austin's win.
For the Vipers (24-18), Monte Morris paced the Vipers with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in 39 minutes, while RJ Hunter contributed with 23 points and 5 rebounds in 34 minutes.
