CANTON, OH - The Canton Charge (18-24), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (22-20), 93-85 Friday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. Cavaliers assignee Ante Zizic tallied his fifth consecutive double-double with the Charge, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes of action.
Despite shooting just 34% in the first half, Canton forced 11 turnovers and held Grand Rapids to 39% from the field in the and maintained a 42-40 lead entering the break. Canton responded with a big third quarter, shooting 54% and outscoring Grand Rapids 31-24. Zizic and fellow Cavs assignee Marcus Thornton combined for 16 third quarter points and helped pushed Canton's lead to as many as 11, the largest of the game.
A KJ McDaniels dunk cut Canton's lead to 82-80 with 4:11 remaining in the fourth quarter before two consecutive Zizic buckets pushed the Charge lead to six with 1:55 remaining. A deep John Holland three pointer with 1:15 on the clock all but sealed the Charge victory as the hosts held on for the 93-85 victory in front of 2,922 fans.
Charge guard London Perrantes posted 15 points and seven assists in 37 minutes running the point. Holland finished with a well-rounded effort, notching 13 points while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing five assists and swiping four steals in 33 minutes. JaCorey Williams came off of the bench to provide 10 points and eight rebounds. Gerald Beverly was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, finishing with eight points in an efficient 12 minutes of relief.
The Charge held former Cavaliers guard Kay Felder to just six points on 2-of-10 shooting in 21 minutes of action. McDaniels starred for the Drive, scoring a team-high 17 points while grabbing 11 rebounds off of the bench. Drive big man Landry Nnoko registered a monster double-double with 14 point and 18 rebounds, battling with Zizic all night in the paint.
