
Red Claws' Rally Falls Short

Oshkosh, WI - March 2, 2018 - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, erased a big deficit but could not quite overcome the Wisconsin Herd, falling on the road Friday night, 106-103.
Maine (17-25) was led by Vitto Brown with 20 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. L.J. Peak also scored 20 points to go with 6 rebounds. Kadeem Allen added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists, Daniel Dixon 13 points, Trey Davis 14 points, Guerschon Yabusele 9 points, and Devin Williams 8 points and 11 boards.
Wisconsin (19-22) was led by James Blackmon, Jr. with 23 points and Brandon Jennings with 19 points and 8 assists.
The Herd jumped out to an early 10-2 lead, when Ricky Ledo scored on the fast break with a lay-up. Peak stopped the bleeding with Maine's first three of the game. Jennings and Ledo scored two buckets quickly. Wisconsin product Vitto Brown buried a corner three to cut the deficit to 5. The Red Claws trailed Wisconsin, 23-15 after 1.
In the 2nd, Kyle Casey extended the Herd lead to 10 at 27-17. Brown tried to single-handedly keep Maine in the game, scoring his 10th point early in the quarter on a straight-on three. Jennings buried a long three to put the Herd up 35-24. Peak also got into double-digits for Maine. The Red Claws trailed 48-38 at halftime. After shooting just 25% in the 1st quarter, the Red Claws shot 34% in the first half (15-44). Wisconsin shot 50% (21-42) from the floor in the first two quarters.
Dixon opened the 3rd with a three-point play, and Williams' first bucket of the game made it a 5 point game. Jennings' driving lay-up got it back to 10 at 55-45. Allen dropped in a couple of second-effort buckets to get it back to 5 points. Allen's bucket cut it to 63-62. Joel Bolomboy and the Herd got the lead back to 7 points, and James Blackmon, Jr. followed by a Davis buzzer beater made it 77-69 Wisconsin after 3.
Marshall Plumlee opened the 4th quarter with a lay-in to get the Herd lead back to 10. Blackmon threw in an alley-oop, plus the foul, to extend the Wisconsin lead to 86-71. Maine scored 5 quick points, capped by a Davis three. Brown buried a corner three to get to 20 points, and Yabusele's dunk got it to 91-84. Peaks' steal and slam got it to 5 points. Yabusele buried a three to make it 97-95 Herd with 2:45 to go. Ledo buried a huge three for Wisconsin. Yabusele hit a tough three to make it 104-103 with :02.5 left. After Jennings' free throws, Dixon's half-court shot just missed to end the game.
Maine shot 43% from the field, 38% (15-40) from three-point range, and 12-21 from the free throw line. Wisconsin shot 47% (40-86) from the floor, 36% (8-22) from downtown, and 18-23 from the charity stripe.
