
Six-Run First Sets Tone for Memphis in Win over Norfolk

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds took game one of a six-game series with the Norfolk Tides at AutoZone Park on Tuesday night, taking the win by the final score of 8-6.
With a pair of two-run homers, Memphis erupted in the bottom of the first inning to take a 6-0 lead. Shortstop Paul DeJong and right fielder Moises Gomez each hit home runs in the inning, marking back-to-back at-bats with a home run for each batter.
Gomez, whose final at-bat on Sunday was a walk-off blast, hit his Minor League Baseball leading 28th home run of the season while DeJong, who hit a game-tying blast on Sunday, drilled his 16th of the year on Tuesday night. DeJong added a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to bring his Triple-A RBI total to 52 on the season.
Center fielder Ben DeLuzio and Gomez each registered two-hit nights while DeLuzio and second baseman Evan Mendoza each knocked in a run in the two-run win.
Starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore tossed 4.1 innings, allowed four runs on two hits and struck out seven hitters. In relief, Kyle Ryan earned his team high-tying sixth win of the season. Freddy Pacheco earned his third Triple-A save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
The Memphis Redbirds (52-42) return to AutoZone Park on Wednesday night against the Norfolk Tides (44-50), Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles for a scheduled 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch..
