
IronPigs Hold On in Durham

Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
(Allentown, PA) - The battle for sole possession of first place favors the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (52-42) on Tuesday evening as they defeated the Durham Bulls (51-43) 4-3. The IronPigs scored four runs in the first inning, which proved to be enough for the victory.
Mickey Moniak led off the game with a home run against Joe Wieland (0-1) in the top of the first inning to give Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead. The IronPigs scored three more runs in the inning as Donny Sands scored on a throwing error by Xavier Edwards and Justin Williams hit a two-run single that scored Josh Ockimey and Chris Sharpe.
Ruben Cardenas put Durham on the scoreboard against Ricardo Sanchez in the bottom of the first inning as he hit an RBI single that scored Miles Mastrobuoni. The Bulls cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the third inning as Jonathan Aranda hit a sacrifice fly that scored Ryan Boldt.
Jakob Hernandez (3-0) earned the win as he pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Sanchez. Tyler Cyr earned his third save of the season despite giving up an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning as Tristan Gray hit an RBI single that scored Edwards.
The IronPigs and Bulls will play on Wednesday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
