Rehabbers Aquino and Fraley Lead Louisville to 6-3 Win over Columbus

Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY- The Louisville Bats (39-54) defeated the Columbus Clippers (53-40) with some help from Cincinnati rehabbers Aristides Aquino and Jake Fraley on Tuesday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Shortly after the game began, a lost kitten found its way onto the field, causing a slight delay and potentially a couple of scratches on Bats' reliever Ricky Karcher and head groundskeeper Tod Shafer, before being rescued and play was resumed.

The Bats got on the board early when Aristides Aquino hit a two-run home run in the first inning, bringing home fellow Reds rehabber Jake Fraley who had singled just one at-bat prior. The line-drive homer was Aquino's seventh long ball with the Bats this year in just his 17th game with the club and traveled 428 feet, leaving the bat at 111 MPH.

Reds' rehabber Jake Fraley also had a good night at the dish, reaching base in four of his five plate appearances, tallying three singles and a walk.

The Clippers wasted no time to respond, cutting the lead in half with an RBI-single from David Fry in the second inning and tying the game in the third with another RBI-single from Will Brennan.

Following a one-out double from Juniel Querecuto in the fourth inning, TJ Friedl dropped in a bloop single to score Querecuto, giving the Bats a 3-2 advantage.

The trend of scoring in each inning continued in the fifth when Columbus shortstop Gabriel Arias launched a solo shot into right-center field, bouncing into the Miller Time Taphouse and tying the game 3-3.

The stalemate would not last long as the Bats were set for a big inning in the home half of the fifth. After Jake Fraley reached base for the third time in the game and Cirstian Santana reached on a fielder's choice, third baseman Max Schrock roped a two-out double into the right field corner, clearing the bases. Juniel Querecuto followed with his second hit in as many tries, an RBI-single, giving Louisville a 6-3 lead.

The Louisville bullpen shut down the Clippers offense for the rest of the way, with Jared Solomon, Phillip Diehl, and Eddy Demurias each working scoreless frames, and Fernando Cruz closing out the game to earn his league-leading 17th save of the season.

Game two of the six game series between Louisville and Columbus is scheduled for tomorrow night (July 27) at Louisville Slugger Field with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Robert Dugger (1-3, 4.85) will be on the hill for the Bats while southpaw Logan Allen (0-2,12.54) will get the start for the Clippers.
