Wings Fall in Series Opener 12-5

The Rochester Red Wings dropped their sixth straight game Tuesday night, losing 12-5 to the Scranton RailRiders at Frontier Field.

In his second start for the Wings this season, RHP Franklyn Kilome gave up six hits and four earned runs in three innings of work.

Scranton jumped to an early 3-0 lead, but Rochester logged a pair of runs in the third on a two-run homer from 1B Joey Meneses to make it 3-2. It was his 20th of the season, good for second in the International League.

RHP Carson Teel relieved Kilome and surrendered a six-run fourth inning on four RBI singles, an RBI double, and an RBI groundout as Scranton broke the game open. Teel's six allowed runs were the most he's given up in a game in his minor league career.

Rochester cut the lead to six in the fourth, as an RBI double from SS Ildemaro Vargas and an RBI groundout from Meneses put the Railriders up 10-4.

Vargas logged his second RBI of the night with a fifth-inning single that scored DH Donovan Casey and brought the Wings to within five runs, but RHP Matt Brill gave up an RBI double in the sixth that put Scranton up 12-5. LHP Francisco Perez took the mound in the seventh and worked two scoreless innings, handing the ball to LHP Matt Cronin in the ninth. Wings pitchers gave up a season-high 18 hits in the loss.

With Tuesday's defeat, the Wings have given up 39 runs in their last five games.

The Red Wings are just 7-19 in their last 25 games, as their record drops to 47-47 on the season. Tuesday's loss marks the first time Rochester has owned a .500 record since April 24, when they were 9-9.

The Wings will send RHP Cade Cavalli to the mound Wednesday evening with a chance to win their first game since July 15. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
