Worcester Red Sox News Release
BUFFALO, N.Y. - In a pitcher's duel at Sahlen Field, the Worcester Red Sox (49-45) edged the Buffalo Bisons (49-45) by a 2-1 final on Tuesday night.
The game was scoreless through five innings. In the sixth, Devlin Granberg led off the inning with a double against Buffalo starter Casey Lawrence. He advanced to third on a fly ball from Connor Wong. Then, Triston Casas hit a sacrifice fly to plate Granberg and put Worcester on top 1-0.
Buffalo responded in the bottom of the sixth. Three-straight singles from Gabriel Moreno, L.J. Talley, and Jordan Groshans tied the game.
The WooSox took the lead in the ninth inning as Ryan Fitzgerald brought in the go-ahead run on a sharply hit fielder's choice that scored Christin Stewart.
In his first start since 2018, Eduard Bazardo tossed three scoreless innings, allowing three hits while walking one and striking out two. Ten of Bazardo's last 12 appearances have been scoreless.
Jake Thompson, Caleb Simpson, and Zack Kelly combined to allow only one run on five hits over the final six innings.
Worcester is now 8-5 against Buffalo this season and 15-14 in one-run games.
The WooSox continue their six-game series with the Bisons tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Sahlen Field. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. on 98.9 Nash Icon, 100.1 FM The Pike, and throughout the WooSox Radio Network.
