
Six Players, Coaching Staff, Named to FL All-Star Game

WUERFEL PARK - The Traverse City Beach Bums lead the Frontier League standings and are also tops in All-Star representatives the league announced Monday. Six players, and the coaching staff, will represent the Beach Bums on the East Division team at the 2015 Frontier League All-Star Game July 15th in Schaumburg, IL.
Position players Yazy Arbelo, Jay Austin, Brandon Jacobs and Jose Vargas along with pitchers Andrew Brockett and Ian MacDougall. Each of the position players will start the game with the pitchers serving as relievers.
By virtue of leading the division, manager Dan Rohn and his coaching staff consisting of pitching coach Greg Cadaret and hitting coach Dom Gaudioso will have the honor of guiding the East Division team.
The All-Star Festivities include a Home Run Derby on July 14th with participants to be announced.
Arbelo is playing his second season with the Beach Bums and gets his first All-Star appearance. He is hitting .270, five homers and 25 RBI. His 13 doubles rank in the top five in the Frontier League. Arbelo has started every game playing first base and batting clean-up. On June 21st he clubbed the 100th homer of his professional career. He is a native of Miami, FL.Austin is in his first season with the Beach Bums and leads the team in batting average (.346) and stolen bases (14). He had an 18-game hitting streak throughout June where he batted .394. The Atlanta, GA native is a former second round draft pick of the Houston Astros and recently stole the 150th base in his pro career.
Brockett is in his first season with the Beach Bums and has been as consistent a closer the team has ever had. He has converted 15 of 16 save opportunities and leads the league in saves. He has allowed only two runs and 13 hits in 18.2 innings pitched. The North Haven, CT native is a one-time Kansas City Royals farm hand.
Jacobs is in his first season with the Beach Bums and is currently on a nine-game hitting streak. He is hitting .317 with 20 RBI. His eight homers are tied for the team lead. He has been reliable, playing in all but one game this season. A native of Atlanta, GA, Jacobs is a one-time 10th round pick of the Boston Red Sox.
MacDougall is a second year Beach Bum making his first All-Star appearance. He is 6-1 and tied for the league lead in wins. A Bend, OR resident, MacDougall was the Beach Bums' first round selection in the 2013 Frontier League draft.
Vargas is in his fifth season with the Beach Bums and is returning to the All-Star Game for the first time since his MVP season in 2012. He is hitting .329, five homers and 26 RBI while playing a near flawless third base. He has shown durability starting every game at third base and batting third. With his 384th hit as a Beach Bum last week he became the club's All-Time hits leader. The Ventura, CA native is a one-time Chicago White Sox farm hand.
The initial rosters of 24 were voted in by the Frontier League general managers, managers, coaches, broadcasters and outside media.
The six All-Star selections are tied with Southern Illinois for the most for any team.
The Beach Bums (29-14) are off on Monday but Action resumes with a three-game series at Wuerfel Park against the Southern Illinois Miners Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday each at 7:05pm.
Tuesday night is a 2-4-1 night. Fans who purchase a $10 chairback ticket get a second one for FREE. It's also "Mommy and Me Night". Wednesday is the "Salute to Cherries Night" featuring fun promotions including a cherry pit spitting contest. Promotion. Thursday will be another 2-4-1 ticket special.

Spaces remain for interested vendors with open registration held every Saturday morning starting at 7:00 am.
